Chapters & Councils

The Office of Greek Life is responsible for managing and advising the entire Greek community at the George Washington University, enhancing the fraternity and sorority experience of the GW students, while ensuring the continued existence and growth of those organizations. Recognized fraternity and sorority chapters at GW contribute positively to student life through programs and services provided to the university community.

Greek Life specifically advises the three major umbrella Greek organizations:

The Greek Life staff serve as interactive liaisons between the Greek community and GW, advocating for the needs of the community, ensuring their voice and concerns are heard, and promoting the positive qualities of the Greek community to the GW community, including the administration, students and faculty. In addition, the Office assesses the developmental needs of the Greek community and provides appropriate educational programs regarding issues such as: service to the community, member education, discrimination, hazing, substance abuse, scholarship, and risk management.

In addition, the Greek Life Office works closely with the national and international headquarters of each organizations on GW's campus to ensure positive and continued growth among the chapters, as well as compliance with university policies such as the Code of Student Conduct, Greek Life policies, and the requirements of national and umbrella organizations.

Ultimately, Greek life at GW is about community, scholarship, community service/ philanthropy, brother/sisterhood, and leadership. It's about enhancing the GW and DC communities through service and social functions. It's about traditions, learning valuable lessons, and establishing life-long friendships. And, the purpose of the Office of Greek Life is to ensure that this is all made possible for any student who wants to take part in this awesome opportunity called being Greek!
